To aid in children’s literacy, the Story Dogs project was born. We took this from their website … When children read to a dog, the outcomes are amazing! It is a non-judgemental setting, the children’s focus improves, their literacy skills increase and their confidence soars. The accepting, loving nature of dogs gives this program its magic and helps children relax, open up, try harder and have fun while reading to a friendly, calm dog. Woof!
The Leos of Chancellor saw the need for this service locally and have sponsored Kay and ‘Barney’ to read at Mountain Creek State School and Brightwater State School. Barney is a Spoodle and loves to engage in kids’ reading time! Research has shown that this project has improved attention levels and literacy in children who are struggling.
